What is plaster skimming?
Skimming involves applying a thin finishing layer over a suitable surface. It can create a smooth base for decoration on appropriate plaster and plasterboard backgrounds.
Where existing plaster is loose or poorly bonded, simply covering it is not the answer. The background needs assessment, defective material may need removal, and suitable preparation is required before the new finish is applied.
What should your quotation cover?
Identify the walls, ceilings and rooms involved. Ask whether the price includes preparation, plasterboard installation where needed, protection of surrounding areas and the final clean-up.
Allow time for drying before decoration. Painting too soon can contribute to problems with the finish, so follow the relevant product guidance rather than relying only on appearance.
