Look beyond the size
When comparing garden room quotations, ask what is included beyond the walls and roof. Discuss foundations, insulation, doors, windows, electrical installation, flooring and decoration.
Access to the garden, site clearance and the surrounding landscaping should also form part of the conversation. For a bathroom or kitchenette, include plumbing, drainage and hot-water requirements from the beginning rather than adding them after the design is agreed.
For a gym, explain which equipment you plan to use so its requirements can be considered.
Check the requirements before building
Some garden buildings in England fall within permitted development, but conditions and restrictions apply. Planning permission and Building Regulations approval are separate matters, so check both for your proposed building and intended use.
